About this session
The session overview and practical takeaways clinicians can expect.
Vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the most treatable causes of multisystem illness seen in primary care, yet it remains under-recognised and inconsistently managed. The problem is not usually a lack of guidance, but a failure to apply the clinical nuance already present within NICE NG239, BSH guidance and the wider research literature.
This GP teaching session, delivered by Dr Asim Naqvi MRCGP — Medical Adviser to the B12 Society, contributor to NICE NG239 and member of the JLA Pernicious Anaemia PSP steering group — alongside Heather Hardie, President of the B12 Society, will focus on the practical gaps where patients fall through the net: misleading “normal” serum B12 results, negative intrinsic factor antibodies, cofactor deficiencies affecting response, neurological presentations without anaemia, and symptom groups such as fatigue, fibromyalgia and functional neurological symptoms where more active investigation is already justified.
This is not alternative medicine. It is conventional medicine applied properly — with sharper clinical reasoning, safer follow-up and fewer patients left untreated because the small print was missed.
Book your place now to strengthen your confidence in identifying and managing B12 deficiency safely, accurately and within current guideline-based practice.
Register now for this practical B12 Society GP teaching session and take away a clearer, safer framework for assessing, treating and reviewing patients with suspected B12 and cofactor deficiency.
The B12 Society is a small charity and we rely heavily on donations to keep providing support, education, and advocacy for people affected by B12 deficiency.
